It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play
4040 Twiggs Street, San Diego, 92110
This year's is Cygnet Theatre's final rendition of the "radio play" based on the Frank Capra movie. Nine actors read scripts, focus on stand-up microphones, and tell the tale of George Bailey, guardian angel of Bedford Falls, fallen on hard times. Tom Andrew re-creates his award-winning role as George. Amanda Sitton (who gives languid, beauty-pageant waves to the audience) heads a fluid ensemble cast, directed by Sean Murray. And ingenious Jason Connors improvises sounds, including cricket chirps from an ice cream scoop. In the brief second act, the bells and whistles vanish as George rediscovers his purpose.
