Irving Berlin's White Christmas
San Diego Musical Theatre's lively production boasts 30 performers and - count 'em! - a 21-piece orchestra for this stage-musical version of the 1954 movie-homage to Irving Berlin and the holiday season. If the plot were any skimpier, the script would qualify as a revue. The the story creates useful set-ups for "Count Your Blessings," "Snow," "Blue Skies," and the title song. David Engel and Laura Dickinson head the cast as Bob Wallace and Betty Haynes, reluctant soul-mates. The Todd Nielsen-directed show gets strong support from Jeffrey Scott Parsons, Jill Townsend, Ed Hollingsworth, and Karla Franco. Credit to choreographer Lisa Hopkins who, at one point, has 28 feet tap-clacking in sync to the rousing "Let Yourself Go."
Worth a try.
