In Amlin Gray's "nightmare comedy," a gullible journalist covers a Vietnam-like war and goes from naive to native. Mo`olelo Performing Arts tweaks the comedy but omits the nightmare. An urge to endear dominates the first act and much of the second. Brian Bielawski and Greg Watanabe (as the Reporter and the Historical Event) are game performers, but the staging has them avoid drama more often than not. As a result, scenes never develop beyond unconnected comedy sketches. George Ye's soundscape and Stephen Terry's lighting balance the real and the surreal to good effect.
