In Jordan Seavey's comedy-drama a gay couple, called the Academic and the Writer, met through Friendster, a dating service. The piece follows the highs and lows of their relationship from 2006 to 2011. The nonlinear, back and forth format can be disorienting. Along the way, they exchange quips and comments about almost everything, especially gay identity politics. For Diversionary, under Matthew M. Morrow's crisp direction, Jacob Caltrider andAlexander Guzman handle the fragmented dialoguewith skill. The set includes three rows of seats on the stage, to represent "everyone in America"?
