In the mid-1970s, local radio station 101 KGB held a contest for local songs about San Diego. The top 12 songs were featured on an album known as Homegrown, with all proceeds going to charity and giving local musicians more exposure. Artistic director Javier Velasco grew up in San Diego and was inspired by the music from this album. Join San Diego Ballet for two blasts from the past! Two world premieres. Also on the bill: My Blue Heaven and Other Songs from Grandma’s Player Piano, a nostalgic look at romances past by emerging choreographer Matt Carney.
