Holmes and Dr. Watson
This highly theatrical piece challenges the intellect while it toys with the imagination. Under David Ellenstein's astute direction, a solid cast holds you in their grip until the final blackout. Sherlock Holmes is missing. Dr. Watson must find out which of three asylum inmates (played by Jacob Sidney, Drew Parker, and Christopher M. Williams) is the real Holmes. Richard Baird and Si Osborne give stellar performances as Watson and Dr. Evans. While Jeffrey Hatcher's play is clever, and features twists that boggle the mind, a lengthy period of boring dialogue between Watson and Evans could be improved. Scenic designer Marty Burnett created a scrim section of the foreboding gray stone backdrop with a massive waterfall seen through an opening in a mysterious forest path.Worth a try.
