Georges Rouault: Printmaker, Painter, Prophet
The University of San Diego’s Hoehn Family Galleries is proud to present Georges Rouault – Printmaker, Painter, Prophet, an exhibition showcasing the complete Miserere series—one of the most profound works of Christian art in the 20th century.
The exhibition explores Rouault’s deeply spiritual and artistic vision, depicting themes of suffering, redemption, and faith. Alongside Miserere, the exhibition features additional works, including Les Fleurs du Mal and Passion, offering a striking contrast between Rouault’s stark black-and-white engravings and his luminous, stained-glass-like prints.
This exhibition holds special significance for USD, as the Miserere series was generously gifted to the university by Karen and Robert Hoehn with the promise that it would be shared with students and the community. It provides a unique opportunity to engage with a masterpiece that bridges art, faith, and social reflection.
