An often strange production to follow. At times, the North Coast Rep and Anne Charlotte Hanes Harvey's new adaptation do justice to the Ibsen classic. Then others when jokes and shtick intrude on Hedda's prison-like world, with the walls closing in (do we really need Tesman's thumb caught in a valise? -- that's slapstick, not Ibsen). With this talented cast and this playwright, more subtle ironies would serve the play far better than a restless urge to entertain. Worth a try.
