A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Comedy abounds on the North Coast Rep stage, as the Roman slave Pseudolus attempts to win his freedom by finding a way for Hero, his master's son, and Philia, a virgin courtesan sold to Captain Miles Gloriosos, to be together. Things unravel quickly, resulting in faked deaths and mistaken identities, but there is, of course, a happy ending for nearly the entire cast of characters. The ensemble of actors is impeccable in their comic timing, vocal strength, and acting. They move fluently around the brightly colored single set consisting of three neighborhood home fronts. Favorite songs included "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" and "I'm Calm." Witty and laugh-inducing, albeit on the lengthy side, Forum is definitely Worth a try.
