Fallen Angels
What might seem silly today was deemed radical and "obscene" when Noel Coward's comedy premiered in 1925. Two aristocratic housewives contemplate having an affair, with the same man, the mystical Maurice Duclos. But should they? Coward strings out this back and forth for much of the play, interspersed with false alarms and bickering (the arrival of Duclos is, well, long-awaited). The North Coast Rep and director Rosina Reynolds have given this "early" Coward piece a fine and lively production. The leads, Joanna Strap and Summer Spiro are in near constant motion. And when he finally gets the call, after one of the theater's longest build-ups for an entrance, Richard Baird's a boulevardier par excellence.
Worth a try.
