The sport has been growing on the West Coast, and there are now some 37 outrigger racing clubs in California. Founded in 1978 in San Diego, the Kai Elua (two oceans) Outrigger Canoe Club is encouraging new membership and interest in the sport by opening up their Saturday practice session to those who would like to give outrigger racing a shot.
