Eurydice
217 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside, 92054
Cost: $15 - $25
Based on the Greek myth of Orpheus, Sarah Ruhl retells the story from the perspective of his bride. As Eurydice, Morgan Taylor Altenoff gives an impressive array of emotions in a straightforward, honest manner. John Maltese brings a fresh masculinity to Orpheus, a sensitive man with dignity. Though director Dhyana Dahl has guided the cast with authority and love for the material, the pace has the feel of a funeral procession most of the time. Actrors with more inner energy would help. The shadow puppetry, by Mark Patricio and Kelsey McNeilly, adds a mystical quality to the piece. Worth a try.
