Dinner with Marlene
1142 Orange Avenue, Coronado, 92118
Cost: $24 - $72
In October, 1938, Eric Hanes received the dinner invitation of a lifetime: dine with Marlene Dietrich. Almost 80 years later, his daughter (playwright Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey) brings his extraordinary tale to life. Part fact, part fiction, the piece explores the politics and passion under the surface of social niceties. As guests gather at the Tout Paris restaurant, the threat of war looms. Political discussion is not on the menu, but can it be avoided? Deborah Gilmour Smyth gives an impeccable performance as Dietrich. Worth a try.
