The Diary of Anne Frank
Imagine a condition far, far worse than prison. From July, 1942, to September, 1944, young Anne Frank and seven other Jews hid from the Nazis in the "secret annex" of a building in Amsterdam. They couldn't "make a creak" between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Anne kept a diary so vivid and honest it became a literary treasure. Moxie Theatre's production sports an appropriately drab, realistic set by Sean Fanning and impoverished costumes by Jennifer Brawn Gittings. The acting, however, is uneven. Standouts are: Eddie Yaroch and Wendy Waddell (as Otto and Edith Frank) and especially Katelyn Katz, remarkably free spirited as Anne Frank. Wendy Kesselman's adaptation has lulls, but does raise the question: "If they know trains are taking Jews to death camps, why don't they bomb the tracks?"Worth a try.
