Dead Man's Cell Phone
6663 El Cajon Boulevard, Suite N, San Diego, 92115
When Jean answers a ringing cell phone, she plummets through a technological looking glass into a world of negatives. Except for the conclusion, which has trouble tying loose ends, Sarah Ruhl's comedy-drama fascinates. Director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg and Moxie Theatre have an affinity for Ruhl's leaps and lurches. And Jo Anne Glover charms throughout as Jean — a silver lining in a perfect storm. The ensemble cast, dressed in Jennifer Brawn Gittings's eloquent costumes, does fluid work. And when the "dead man," Gordon, finally gets to speak, Matt Thompson does one of his best efforts ever. He's suave, charismatic, and nowhere near Jean's image of a decent man.
Worth a try.
