Dancin' in the Street
The Ira Aldridge Repertory Players celebrate the Soul Music of Sam and Dave, Aretha, the Temptations, James Brown, Al Green and Otis. The show is a talent contest to find the "best of the best." Janice Edwards belts "Mustang Sally," Ayanna Hobson, "What's Going On?", Rodney Hutsona, "Love and Happiness." Hard to choose, especially when you add MC Galaxy Glen Reynold's hilarious impression of Stevie Wonder's "Very Superstitious," and Carl Overstreet's gospel-style, soul of Soul "A Change is Gonna Come." Persistent miking problems kept most numbers on the same dynamics and distracted from such quality voices. The evening also includes dancing by the 30-member Thunder Squad Drumline, and the captivating Teye Sa Thiosanne West African troupe.
Worth a try.
