When the new cook ruins a roast, the upper class New England family's traditional cocktail hour runs overtime. Pent up discontent flows. A.R. Gurney, Jr.'s, comedy of manners is often entertianing, made so by director Rosina Reynolds and a capable cast at North Coast Rep. But the play, which exposes some potentially serious psychological wounds, seals them forever with one of the theater's happiest endings. When the cows come home, they are still sacred after all. Note: due to popular demand, the North Coast Rep has extended the show's run. Worth a try.
