Cardboard Piano
Northern Uganda, New Year's Eve, 1999. Teenaged Adiel (agile Andrea Agosto) plans a secret wedding with her American lover Chris (Kate Rose Reynolds) in a church. But 13-year-old Pika (John Wells III) bursts through the doors. He's running from Ugandan police, who severed his right ear. Then a soldier (prominent Wreklless Watson) enters, and the two-act play unleashes fierce energy in the confines of a sanctuary, and gunfights puncture the drone of a constant rain. Wearing militaryuniforms and traditional Ugandan costumes, the four committed actors perform on a minimal yet evocative stage and Cardboard Piano speaks of faith, reconciliation, and forgiveness in the midst of so much bloodshed.Critic's Pick.
