Bull in a China Shop
4545 Park Boulevard, San Diego, 92116
Cost: $15 - $55
In Bryna Turner's comedy, now at Diversionary, the bulls are Mary Woolley (President of Mt. Holyoke College from 1901 to 1937) and her life-partner Jeanette Marks (taught English at the college). The "China Shop" is the xenophobia surrounding them. They want to bring the college into the 20th century and change the world. The play follows the ups and downs of their relationship for four decades. It has strengths but moves in short, often comedic scenes, which undercut their courageous stances and make one wish for more detail about two amazing women.Worth a try.
