Barefoot in the Park
Opposites attract in Neil Simon's romantic comedy, now getting a fun, stylish production at the Globe. Paul is a straight-laced lawyer, and Corie is his up-for-anything, free-spirited housewife. The lighthearted play focuses on the young couple as they adjust to married life. It starts off a bit slow, with labored jokes about everyone's exhaustion at schlepping up to the couple's fifth-floor walk-up. But things are off and running by the second act when, in the play's highlight, the newlyweds have their first blowup. Kerry Bishe and Chris Lowell, both familiar from their TV work, find the heart and humor in their characters, while sets, costumes, and sound design add more charm.Worth a try.
