Abundance
6663 El Cajon Boulevard, Suite N, San Diego, 92115
Cost: $15 - $30
Among many other things, Beth Henley's Abundance is a grim parody of the 19th century's dime novels where the hero tames the Wild West. But the hero's a larger than life male. Bess Johnson and Macon Hill have come to the Wyoming Territory as mail-order brides. Bess just wants to be a subservient wife,. Macon to "see the elephant" and explore the great unknown. When their husbands-to-be arrive, all enter Henley Territory, where up is down, facts are lies, and "early disappointments" can embitter but good. Terrific cast, led by Jacque Wilke (Macon) and Jessica John (Bess), and spare, eloquent design work. Critic's Pick.
