A Dram of Drummhicit
In Arthur Kopit and Anton Dudley's new play, drummhicit - pronounced "drum-hkkkt" - is a single malt Scotch. It'll curl your nose and lacquer your teeth but is not ready for prime time. Neither is the play. An American developer wants to build two golf courses in a dinky island off the northern tip of Scotland. But fairies allegedly inhabit the site. Young Mac, a "fixer," goes to iron out details and goes native. Only one scene has the breath of life: when Mac falls for Fiona, who may be a fairy in human form, Lucas Hall reacts with an endearing combination of innocence and awakened desire. The rest of the play has sketchy characters, much forced humor, pseudo-supernatural shenanigans, and is as gabby as a Scottish pub.
