Lamplighters Community Theatre's 78th season opens with James Roose Evans' drama, based on Helene Hanff's autobiography, in which the main characters communicate only through letters. Helene (Kelly McKenna) writes a letter to Frank P. Doel (Brian B. Evans), the bookseller at 84 Charing Cross Road, and they become pen pals. Although Frank is a sympathetic conversationalist, unfortunately the overall narrative is repetitive. The letters rarely give theatergoers insight into Helene and Frank's worlds.
