Jackie Thompson Day
Celebrate San Diego’s Olympians and Track Legends, Jackie Thompson, a former Lincoln High School Senior and resident of San Diego, is one of those athletes celebrated for her accomplishments in the 1972 Olympic Track and Field heats in Munich, Germany as the USA 200-meter semi-finalist.
Thompson sprinted her way into the history books like her remarkable coach, Mickey Patterson-Tyler, a trailblazer and the first black woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London. The celebration and reunion are planned for her and the legendary sports club, “Mickey’s Missiles Youth Club” credited for training, coaching and nurturing young athletes such as Thompson, and Dennis Mitchell, who ran in the 100-meter dash in Olympic competition in 1988, 1992 and 1996.
