Horticultural Tours: Balboa Park Palms
1549 El Prado, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free
Arguably San Diego’s economically most important tree, palm trees are the economic foundation of many societies around the world. Palms are often used as an iconic symbol of tourist destinations (like San Diego), can survive hurricanes while all other trees are severely damaged, and grow some of the largest leaves and seeds of any plant. As part of its wondrous botanical family, Balboa Park is home to many palm trees, and its famous Palm Canyon hosts dozens of species.
