Mainly Mozart Genius Week: Clarice Assad
Composer Clarice Assad presents Tapestry, an amalgamation of the ideas of 50 female musicians and composers from across the globe, built as a celebration of women. Performed with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott and more. The program also includes “Piano Trio” by the prolific American composer Ellen Zwillich who earned the 1983 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her “Symphony No. 1. The concert will conclude with “Piano Quintet in F Sharp Minor” written in 1909 by Amy Beach, who is widely considered to be the first successful woman composer in America.
Mainly Mozart Genius Week, a celebration of innovation and genius in the spirit of Mozart within San Diego, will take place Nov. 14, 17 and 18. World premiere performances Nov. 14 and 18 are part of the inaugural California Festival, a two-week celebration of new music with 95 participating arts organizations across the state.
