Lightning (1952. 90 minutes): Director Mikio Naruse’s eloquent, slow-burn rebellion against social conventions is considered his masterpiece. Hideko Takamine portrays a perky bus conductor frustrated with the tensions in her squabbling family who breaks free to make a go of it on her own. In Japanese with English subtitles. Held in the Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library, on the first and third Wednesdays, with a brief introduction before the film and a discussion afterward, led by Ralph DeLauro. This program is presented by the Coronado Public Library and the Coronado Island Film Festival.
