Not Working (a Musical)
Presented by the Asian Story Theater, Teatro Máscara, and the San Diego Black Ensemble Theatre, the musical takes a spirited and sometimes humorous look at how Covid has altered the lives and careers of those from diverse communities, as reflected in the story’s main character, Anqa. She is a young American-born woman who returns to America for the first time after her parents were deported years prior. Upon Anqa’s return to the U.S., the pandemic hits. Lockdowns and restrictions ensue. And despite her personal quest to re-establish herself, she develops unexpected empathy for new friends facing their own struggles and losses from Covid. The production plays for three consecutive weekends through Nov. 13 at three different community venues: El Salon Cultural Center; the Diversionary Theatre;, and Chula Vista Library lecture hall. Tickets range from free to $10 and $20.
