Witchcraft & Feminism
At the Women’s Museum of California’s October First Saturday program: Learn about the history of witchcraft, its connection to the modern feminist movement and connect with the knowledge of the natural world that our foremothers once used. Throughout history, women have used knowledge of herbs, moon cycles, and connections to nature for medicine, cooking, midwifery, and spiritual practices. Unfortunately women, mostly indigenous, non-Christian, or non-white women, have had these home remedies and practices weaponized against them with false accusations of witchcraft and harm to society. Visitors will learn about herbs and make their own herbal candles. The free activity will allow visitors to learn about herbal properties and personalize their candles by anointing them with herbs.
