Exterminate All the Brutes
Black Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck’s newest film, Exterminate All the Brutes: A four-part docuseries, the film is based on three critical historical texts by authors Sven Lindquist, Michel-Rolph Trouillot, and Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz. Exterminate breaks new cinematic ground for the way it reframes not only the United States’ history of slavery, genocide, and racism as stemming from European colonialism, but also these histories’ relationship to the Jewish Holocaust and the Haitian Revolution. In this Arts and Lectures Signature event, the American Indian Studies department will screen the first episode of the series and feature a panel discussion with Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Dr. Joely Proudfit, Prof. Dina Gilio-Whitaker, and a guest to be announced.
