San Diego Humane Society 5480 Gaines Street, San Diego 92110
Cost: Free

Parents and Guardians Can Sign Their Kids Up to Read “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” to Shelter Dogs at San Diego Humane Society on Saturday, December 10th The hearts of dog lovers are about to grow 3 sizes this year. This holiday season, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, a leading global children’s entertainment company and the Petfinder Foundation, the nation’s leading resource for pet adoption, are teaming up with San Diego Humane Society for a special, Grinch-themed #ReadToMax holiday program. On December 10th, kids with a soft spot for canines are invited to participate in a festive “Paws & Paperbacks” event at San Diego Humane Society where they can read the classic tale of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! to dogs available for adoption. San Diego Humane Society regularly hosts events where kids read to shelter dogs as they have come to recognize the positive, calming effects that story times have on their pups. The #ReadToMax events on December 10th are themed after Max, the Grinch’s four-legged sidekick, providing this special reading activity with a festive twist. The shelter will also feature fun Grinch décor for both the visitors and four-legged residents to enjoy. Participants in the “Paws & Paperbacks” event at the shelter will receive a copy of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! to take home. Hanna Andersson will also be providing Grinch pet PJs and Fetch for Pets will also be donating Grinch-themed pet toys for shelter dogs adopted on December 10th. Dog lovers who can’t make it to the shelter for a reading can check out Instagram and Facebook for the #FindYourMax social campaign. Throughout December, the Petfinder Foundation, in partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, will be spotlighting some of the pups in shelters nationwide that have had the hardest time finding their forever home. Grinch’s in search of their very own Max can just look for #FindYourMax or visit Dr. Seuss Enterprises or Petfinder’s Facebook and Instagram pages. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! celebrates its 65th publishing anniversary this year. When Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Random House Children’s Books) debuted in 1957 it was like no other Christmas tale. While other stories always featured Santa, elves, reindeer and other known characters of Christmas, this soon-to-be holiday classic starred the unfamiliar citizens of Who-ville and a grumpy character called “The Grinch.” Six decades later, “Grinch” is part of the modern lexicon and included in four different dictionaries; the book has spawned star-led Hollywood productions, animated specials, and a musical; and millions of Grinch-inspired products, from make-up to union suits, are sold globally each year to fans who love the character’s snarky wit.
