Minor Variations
Figmentum dives back into live-action with a concert series of minimalist works featuring an eclectic combination of flute, clarinet, piano, bass, and electric guitar. Figmentum will perform works of Phillip Glass, Eva-Maria Houben, and Kerrith Livengood at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, including the ever-popular Music in Fifths, Houben's meditative a hidden place, and Livengood's wildly interactive Scrawl Etude #1, in which the performers edit, change, and otherwise sabotage each other's scores in the middle of the performance. In the spirit of our minimalist works, Figmentum will repeat our concert (with "minor variations") on April 29th at the Mission Hills United Church of Christ. This performance will again feature the works of Glass and Houben, and will add Frederic Rzewski's Les Moutons de Panurge (The Sheep of Panurge), a deceptively upbeat, yet cautionary work of the lemming dressed in sheep's clothing.
