Mother Nature in San Diego: Earthquakes
Geologist Patrick Abbott, professor emeritus at San Diego State University, explorer, guide, and author of several books including "Geology of Mission Trails Regional Park" continues our OnTopic lecture series with the second of four presentations about natural events and their impact on the San Diego region. For millions of years, Western North America has been hit by big earthquakes. The magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake in the San Francisco Bay region in 1989 presents an informative example for us, as the updated earthquake-planning scenario for San Diego is based on a magnitude 6.9 earthquake. Series continues: Thurdays - 12/2 (Floods), & 12/9 (Wildfire) Participation in the presentation is free of charge, but registration is required.
