Takae Ohnishi & Friends: The Joyful Baroque
Russell Lane at Gilman Drive, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $9 - $28
Harpsichordist Takae Ohnishi will be joined by her friends to present an evening of joyful Baroque music, focusing on the dances. Derived from theatrical and social dance of the upper class in Europe, dance music became such an important foundation of instrumental music, and it led to critical genres in chamber music. Historical dances, such as gavotte, sarabande, courante, and gigue, went through significant transformation, while still retaining their rhythmic features in these pieces. In this concert, we will present a variety of popular dances – the rock and roll of the time. The program includes works by some of the all-time favorite composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi, and Bach.
