Art of Elan: Identities Video Premiere
As 2021 kicks off, Art of Elan and the San Diego Museum of Art continue their creative partnership and commitment to presenting musical interpretation of works in the Museum collection. Originally conceived as live "pop-up" concerts, both organizations worked to re-frame the presentations as part of the Museum's growing Virtual SDMA+ programming. The Virtual SDMA+ Art of Elan "Identities" video premiere will be shared on the San Diego Museum of Art YouTube channel and is available for free streaming thereafter. Spanish multidisciplinary artist Ana de Alvear's contemporary work shifts perceptions and perspectives in a way that's both subtle and transformative. A search for identity pervades her multifaceted projects. Her work is explored through this engaging online video performance by Art of Elan musicians, including Executive and Artistic Director Kate Hatmaker, featuring the haunting "Spectra" for violin, viola, and cello by Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. This will be the San Diego premiere of this atmospheric work, filmed safely at The San Diego Museum of Art. Performers: Andrew Hayhurst (cello), Travis Maril (viola), Kate Hatmaker (violin)
