Sierra Club: La Rumorosa Rock Art Along the Border 2
All over the world from, San Diego
Cost: Free
The Borderlands wilderness rock art contains three origins - trance imagery, archaeoastronomy (a number of verified solstice sites) and cosmology or ceremony. Many are breathtaking and others defy categorization in this survey of Kumeyaay and related artwork in Southern California. Don Liponi, PhD has studied rock art for the past 50 years. He realized that there was a huge vacuum in Kumeyaay-Patayan archaeology and rock art right in his own neighborhood, Southern California, Southwestern Arizona, and northern Baja. He organized more than 50 professionals, Native Americans, and avocationalists to recover the rock art of these "lost cultures."
