Crafting Compelling Openings & Memorable Endings
Beginnings set the tone for the entire piece. The first words, sentence and lines of an essay, fiction, poem must immediately capture the reader and spark their curiosity to continue reading. Endings walk the same tight rope. Whether it is a good last sentence or last paragraph, it is a memorable joy that lifts the reader’s emotions. In this two-hour interactive virtual session we will examine how both of these important anchors can make or break your prose: Examine a collection of strong literary openings and discuss their value. Explore how strong endings spark emotion and leave you yearning for more. Understand where and when to start or end your story. Generate new ideas. You will be emailed the Zoom link 24 hours before the start of class. If you sign up less than 24 hours before the start of the class, please email Kristen at [email protected] for your link.
