The Music of Billy Eckstine: Alto Saxophonist Christopher Hollyday, a New York “Young Lion,” was the youngest musician to play at New York’s Village Vanguard. He toured with Maynard Ferguson's big band, and today, is one of San Diego’s most seasoned and respected jazz musicians. His latest recording “Dialogue” is receiving accolades nationwide. Hollyday currently performs in San Diego and throughout southern California as a jazz saxophonist soloist and with his Telepathy Quintet. Joining him to present the music of Billy Eckstine are: pianist Melonie Grinnell, an active local educator, performer, and a member of the Grossmont College Music faculty since 2001 and bassist Rob Thorsen, noted for his stylistic range and flexibility, who has long been a mainstay of the San Diego jazz scene.
