Reception & Artist Talk: Griselda Rosas
1550 South El Camino Real, Encinitas, 92024
Cost: Free - $10
Featured Regional Artist Griselda Rosas' Reception & Artist Talk: Working between Tijuana and San Diego, artist Griselda Rosas explores themes of cultural hybridity as they relate to identities. Rosas’ work is guided by her experience of living in a border region that is in constant migratory flux. She incorporates historical art and cultural references that become allegories of identity, gender, and violence inherent to the bi-national territory. Employing embroidery techniques on popularly traded fake-ostrich-skin, often associated with garb from an ostentatious subset of Mexican culture, Rosas addresses gender roles, the movement of goods, and consumption existent in the border area cultural exchange.
