Animating With Cels Virtual Summer Art Camp
LUX Art Institute - Virtual Summer Art Camp 2020 Week 6 : July 27th - July 30th Title : Adventures on Plastic: Animating with Cels Teacher : Isabelle Aspin (Ages : 12 - 15) Price for Camp : Members - $200, Non-members - $220 Description : In this session campers will experiment with animating and collaging on cels. Cels are sheets of transparent plastic that enable animators to layer drawings over backgrounds, creating complete images without computers. While cels techniques have been replaced by computers in the last 20 years, drawing and painting on cels connects us to the cartoons of the past, plus it’s fun, relaxing, and leaves you with a very cool object to show off! In this 4 day class we’ll be covering animation basics, rotoscoping and some neat transparent collaging techniques. We’ll also be watching some great animated classics that use cels to their fullest, spectacular potential. Teacher's Bio : Isabelle Aspin is an animator and arts educator from Clinton, New Jersey, currently based out of Los Angeles. She graduated from CalArts in 2016 with a BFA in animation. Her personal work combines current events, history and fiction into textural, handmade animations. Isabelle is interested in using animation to unpack the way we process humanity's transmutations of the planet-- be it by climate change, pollution, land development and beyond. Professionally, Isabelle has worked as a freelance director and animator on projects for clients like Vice, Giphy, Massive Science, HBO and StoryCorps, in addition to working on numerous documentaries and feature films.
