Yidishe lider vegn froyen (Yiddish Songs About Women)
Come join Cindy Paley in singing a variety of Yiddish songs about Jewish women. From everyday love ditties to an erotically passionate tango, to justice-seeking women of the labor movement. These Yiddish folk songs provide a means of connecting with previous generations through the women’s perspective. New music by Polina Shepherd, Chava Alberstein, and Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman will also be featured. A PDF file of song sheets will be provided in transliteration and English translation. About the singer: Cindy Paley has delighted Jewish communities with her timeless albums and dynamic performances. As the music educator at Valley Beth Shalom for 36 years, she brought Jewish music to countless children. For the past 20 years she has been the cantorial soloist for Lev Eisha and Valley Beth Shalom’s N’shama Minyan, two women’s services in Los Angeles. Additionally, Cindy performs Yiddish music throughout California and Poland and teaches annual workshops at the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival. This year, Cindy taught two Yiddish music courses for the Skirball Cultural Center and also presented a Zoom Workshop on Yiddish Songs of the Jewish Labor Movement for KlezCalifornia. Although she is best known for Jewish music, Cindy also performs American folk songs of the 1960s with a trio called The Folk Experience.
