African-American Women in Film
The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation closes out their celebration of Black History Month with an evening devoted to local African-American Women in Film. San Diego screenwriter Tamera Hill will be on hand to present her urban family drama, Never Heard, the all-too familiar story of a father (David Banner) in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, and a son (Romeo Miller) who is lured into Los Angeles' ruthless drug world, forced to choose between answering God’s call to serve or the phone each time a client needs a fix. Directed by Josh Webber, the film also stars Robin Givens, Karrueche Tran, and Master P. Rounding out the bill is the touching family-in-crisis short, Together. One look at her powerful performance and you’ll know why Efé was the winner of the 2019 D.C. Black Film Festival Actress of the Year award. Both Hill and Efé will be in attendance for a post-show Q&A. — Scott Marks
