Jiātíng gùshì: Oral History Project Unveiling & Reception
Enjoy a reception and open house of the current phase of the Museum’s oral history project. Starting at 11 a.m., we will receive all current phase project interviewees, their families, and guests, as well as members of the public in the Museum garden at 404 Third Avenue, opening with light refreshments. At 12 p.m. SDCHM Executive Director, Juliana Gay, and Project Coordinator, Elizabeth Hensley C., will lead a conversation with project narrators about the ongoing oral history interview program at the SDCHM, where Museum researchers, facilities, and equipment are made available to community members at request and through periodic public interview workshops at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension. After this public conversation, and starting around 1:00 p.m., we will open the Pei Chen Liu and Tsun-Nien Chang Library at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension (328 J Street), where the Museum’s oral history library is located and where members of the public may view edits of the footage recorded during interview workshops that have taken place each month since July 2019.
The reception (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) will be held at the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum’s Mission Garden, located at 404 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101. The open house portion of the event (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) will take place at the Museum’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension (just across the street from 404 Third Avenue at 328 J Street). The event is FREE for Museum members, as well as for community members who’ve participated in project interview workshops and their guests. There will be a $5 general admission fee for members of the general public (purchase of admission includes access to the Museum’s main site at 404 Third Avenue, in addition to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension).
