The Hausmann Quartet: Haydn Voyages - Frog & Hair
The Maritime Museum of San Diego and The Hausmann Quartet embark on their fourth season of “Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime,” a unique mix of music and education for those looking for a new cultural and creative experience. The Hausmann Quartet’s intimate performances transport audiences on unique musical voyages, flowing from classical to contemporary works in an idyllic setting, aboard the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley in downtown San Diego. Enjoy performances on the city’s only floating concert hall and immerse yourself in sounds of a string quartet and the San Diego Bay.
Each unique performance explores the evolution of the string quartet through both the lens of classical composer Joseph Haydn and themes varying from differing world views, humor, to the human condition. Refreshments are available on Berkeley’s upper deck bar starting at 3:30pm. Performances include informative and entertaining commentary from musicologist Derek Katz.
Mischief and wry humor abound in 2019's final concert, featuring quirky miniatures by Andrew Norman and Igor Stravinsky to go along with two of Haydn's best-loved works, his so-called "Frog" and "Lark" Quartets. Come enjoy some clever musical jokes, winks and nods to go along with the beautiful sunset aboard the Berkeley as the fourth season of Haydn Voyages comes to a close.
