A Genealogical Trip to Vienna
Judy Schulman will be presenting a program about her second trip (May 2018) to Vienna, Austria to research her maternal family history. More than just a travel log, she will highlight her participation in Vienna’s Stones of Remembrance program. From their website “We wish to keep alive the memory of the murdered Jewish inhabitants that lived in Vienna before the Holocaust. Their culture and tradition was an important part of Viennese life and their huge impact is still visible today. In this spirit we set the “Stones of Remembrance” in an effort to memorialize the former inhabitants in the places where they once lived.” On a lighter note, while there she also tried to find the locations of old photographs taken by her family prior to 1938. She then took present day photographs standing in the same places and will show her 7-second connection to the 1949 Orson Welles movie "The Third Man" .
