Jacquelyne Silver: The Great Composers
1008 Wall Street, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $17 - $100
Each of Jacquelyn Silver’s series of lectures covers two contemporaneous composers. These are composers who forever altered the course of musical history and changed our lives profoundly. Silver will examine musical styles and the way each one heard the magical messages that made them unique. The May 9 lecture looks at Mozart and Haydn. At the age of 6 Mozart heard a piece of music for the first time and wrote it out perfectly; at the age of 8 he completed his first symphonies. We will get to know this complex, extravagantly gifted man through his music and his letters, as well as his colleague Joseph Haydn, 24 years older than Mozart, who was the most respected and honored composer of his time.
