Somewhere in Europe: The WWII Letters of Sam Lesner
4126 Executive Drive, San Diego, 92037
Cost: Free
Sisters Judy Lesner Holstein and Roberta Lesner Bernstein will present their book Somewhere in Europe: The WWII Letters of Sam Lesner. He wrote letters to his wife daily in 1944-45 while serving in the U.S. army 130th General Hospital in France and Belgium. The letters were saved but hidden away until the sisters found them in 2004. Sam Lesner was an award winning film and nightlife critic with the Chicago Daily News for 50 years. His intention to write a book based on his letters was never fulfilled. The sisters carried out his wishes 74 years after his eloquent, poignant letters were written during WWII, which tell a universal tale of fear and generosity, brutality, and humanity.
