Festival of New Trumpet Music West/Brass Band Blast-Off
As part of the inaugural FESTIVAL OF NEW TRUMPET MUSIC WEST (January 20-27, 2019) Gilbert Castellanos will present his original commissioned suite DIA DE LOS MUERTOS at the festival’s final event BRASS BAND BLAST-OFF.
The DIA DE LOS MUERTOS suite, commissioned by THE SAN DIEGO BALLET (Castellanos is a Resident Composer), consists of eight movements, each paying tribute to an individual who has inspired, mentored and impacted Castellanos from music to everyday living and more, including two beloved and respected San Diego jazz legends - guitarist Mundell Lowe and saxophonist Daniel Jackson. Eugene Edward "Snooky" Young, who Castellanos performed with for many years in the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, is also honored.
Brass Band Blast-off, a FREE event presented by UCSD SAN DIEGO URBAN, takes place in Downtown San Diego on January 27 at The Quartyard and features:
