Nutcracker. No Sugar
A world-premiere of ballet “Nutcracker” will make its debut at The Conrad, featuring a twist on the traditional classic. Ballet Institute of San Diego presents “Nutcracker. No Sugar,” conceived by founder and artistic director, Egle Spokaite. While it has all the elements of a traditional “Nutcracker”, this version offers an unexpected look at the beloved holiday ballet, including spotlighting karate students from Eagle Martial Arts of La Jolla. In “Nutcracker. No Sugar” the focus is on Marie and her transition out of childhood and into the complicated emotions of young adulthood. You’ll meet Marie as a young girl, just five-years-old, and watch her grow up through the years, meeting magical fairies and friends along the way. The cast is comprised of young dancers from the Ballet Institute of San Diego (balletinstitutesd.com), guest performers from two Southern California ballet schools, two martial arts schools, and international students and dancers. Ballet Institute of San Diego boasts dancers who are winners of numerous international competitions. Tickets available at (858) 459-3728 or online.
