Chris Hedges: America the Farewell Tour
Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer Award Winning Journalist, Presbyterian minister, and former news war correspondent for the New York Times. He will be speaking on his current book “America the Farewell Tour” in which he jolts us out of complacency regarding our “Country in Decline.” Always thought provoking, honest and hard hitting, Hedges has traveled around the nation, collecting stories, to report back to us in his book. He argues that neither political party—both now captured by corporate power—properly addresses the systemic problem. Hedges shows us an America that should shame us: a land of rampant and deadly drug addiction, of escape into gambling, sadism and pornography, of xenophobic scapegoating and of plundering by the rich and powerful. We are a country in decline, Hedges asserts, brutalized by the corporate state and convulsed by an array of pathologies that have arisen out of the resulting hopelessness and despair.
